Our School Uniform

Here is the New Look for the Scoil Mhuire Boys and Girls  for 2014/2015

February 28, 2014

Today you will have received an update on the results of our school uniform survey. There are some pictures above for your information. The uniform remains largely the same with navy tights added in for the girls anddark navy trousers for the boys. Before ever the survey was suggested by the Minister for Education there had been some concerns expressed by parents regarding the price of the boy's green trousers. As green is an un-common colour it was not possible to source a cheaper version so it was decided  that navy would be a better option. These are more widely available and cheaper so there are some savings there. For the same reason it was decided that the PE tracksuit bottoms will be plain dark navy (no stripes, no logos) and these are also widely available and cheaper. These small changes should help to reduce costs while also retaining a distinct uniform for the school. It is envisaged that the changes should begin from September 2014 or as soon as you are replacing a trousers, tracksuit bottoms or tights. We expect a phasing in period so by December 2015 we should have our new look uniform well established. We hope that you are happy with this outcome and that you will support us in encouraging the children to take pride in wearing their full school uniform each day.
Thank you all for partaking in the survey and a huge thank you to our Parents Association for their work in liaising with suppliers, school and the Board of Management.

Scoil Mhuire Dress Code

We expect all pupils to wear the standard school uniform for Scoil Mhuire. We encourage the children to take pride in wearing their uniform as represents the standards set by our school. Children from Junior Infants to 2nd class may wear the P.E. uniform to school on designated P.E. days only. Children from 3rd to 6th class must bring in their P.E uniform and change during the day. For P.E. runners are compulsory and each child must wear uniform shorts or uniform tracksuit bottoms.

The highest standard of personal appearance is expected at all times. Hair should be neat and tidy. Long hair should be tied back . For safety reasons jewellery should be kept to a minimum and only stud earrings may be worn. Make up may not be worn to school and hair should be of a natural colour.

Children should have their names on their uniforms, coats and other personal belongings.

Our school uniform was first introduced in the nineties and was the culmination of lots of hard work and research by our very active Parents Association at that time. The crest was introduced later and just last year 2010 the Parents Association has introduced a new school jacket. This is optional. It is red in colour and has the crest on it. We think our children look very smart . We encourage our children to take pride in wearing their school uniform as it represents the standards set by our school.
Our Parents Association currently operates a second-hand uniform sale. You can find out more about this from any member of the committee
